About the Program:

Katherine Anne Porter School's garden is a place for our students to learn not just the science associated with gardening but also a place to learn respect for our environment. We hope to engage our students with a desire to learn how to encourage our soil to return it's nutritional wealth to us through the use of organic principals of gardening. With the assistance of the Whole Kids Foundation Garden Grant we will be able to build better fences to protect the garden from deer foraging, build up the soil in the beds, have a larger garden space, and a healthier return at harvest time.

The grant would allow us to buy new tools to replace some that are in really bad shape or are beyond repair. The students have built a temporary gate but it would be wonderful to be able to have a solid and stable replacement.

We also have hopes of building a demonstration garden that will house only Texas Natives. This new garden will be an educational area for not only our students, Staff and Faculty but also for Community members. The new garden will be placed in an area where it will be viewed by hundreds of people the first Saturday of each month during the Lion's Club Market Days event.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.
