About the Program:

My goal for this garden is to create a bio-diverse ecosystem filled with food, herbs, and butterfly or bird attracting plants, so my students and the neighborhood residents can experience nature and fresh food. The garden is located in an underserved neighborhood, so I would like to create an oasis where people can connect with nature. I am currently working on comprehensive signs to distribute throughout the garden, so it can be used as an educational space for myself and other teachers. Currently, the students are working with limited and old tools, and there is no place to safely lock up the tools we currently have. The grant will allow me to buy a shed and deck box with locks and a complete set of tools that will suffice the groups of students that work in the garden. It will also allow us to install soaker hoses throughout and add good soil to our beds. This will help conserve water, have an efficient watering system, and amend the soil to suit the needs of our future crops.
