About the Program:

Armstrong Elementary School is located in an inner suburb of Dallas where there is limited land and dense population. Our goal is to integrate an outdoor classroom that will further expand and improve upon the existing curriculum, values and overall performance of our school including, but not limited to: math, science, social studies, environmental and nutritional education, leadership, school spirit and community outreach. With a hands-on, garden-based learning system, we can encourage our children to become actively involved and to embrace and experience the food cycle through production, harvest, and consumption. Further benefits of integrating this curriculum include allowing for increased nutritional awareness for a healthier diet, providing the opportunity to care for an ecosystem, and giving witness to the interdependence of creatures and plants.
