About the Program:

The John Barry School Garden was planted for the first time in May 2010.  Since then it has doubled in size.  We grow vegetables, flowers and strawberries.  Children work throughout the summer taking care of the garden, researching garden related questions, harvesting and making recipes using the fresh produce.

We hope to start a small "farmer's market" soon.

We also like to make recipes in the classroom in the winter months when we don't have access to our fresh vegetables.  We have made butter, ice cream, bread and chicken soup.  My students really enjoy studying agriculture in the classroom and seeing how we can make things they would normally buy premade in the store.

Our picture shows homemade ice cream.
