The Ivy School
Here at The Ivy School, we believe children have the inherent right to a true nature connection, that this connection is not only imperative to each individual's identity, but to our future as a human race. It has been said before that children do not suffer from A.D.D.(attention deficit disorder), but rather from N.D.D.(nature deficit disorder), and we truly believe that this is the case for many individual students of our current paradigm. We live in a very urbanized and gridded section of Portland. The number one goal of our school garden is to harness practical real life connections between nutrition, how to grow food for ourselves and our community, and the relationship of how to do this organically in an urban context. This grant would make possible the continuation of the organic amendment of our depleted soils, test for specific contaminants that may exist with in our garden plot, and supply funds for drip irrigation in order to facilitate mindfulness around water efficiency.
