About the Program:

My main objective is to create a sustainable vegetable garden that can be used by the entire school as engaging place to learn, read, experiment, etc. For example, I envision the garden to be a place where classes can come observe, experiment, measure, calculate, and inspire. We have several obstacles to making this goal possible, 1) stable & environmentally sound watering technique, 2) expense of garden basics (dirt needed to expand the raised garden beds, plants, and organic pest/fertilizer options), 3) seating to allow for an outdoor classroom environment and reading oasis. One of the most important aspects of the garden is that is will serve as a place to increase awareness to healthy eating and promote physical activity. It will also promote leadership skills & team work among peers, which can lead to a decrease in bullying. It creates a place to think independently and be inquisitive. Finally, the garden creates a sense of belonging, pride and accomplishment for our students.
