Holy Rosary - Wea Catholic School
We have long recognized the many benefits of incorporating a garden into our curriculum at school.
First, we hope to utilize our garden as the centerpoint for our Wellness Plan. It will provide so many hands on opportunities to continue our teaching about healthy eating and physical activity. It will help reinforce our Power Panther program, "Eat Smart, Play Hard" , by involving all of our students in planning, creating, maintaining, and harvesting our garden.
Second, it will give all of our students an opportunity to engage in physical activity by working in the garden. It is a great way to show students that physical activity can come in a variety of forms, and does not always have to be part of an organized sport.
Third, part of our school's mission is to provide service to others. We currently hold many service projects throughout our school year. We will plan to share any extra produce that we grow with those who are hungry, or less fortunate than ourselves. One project that I look forward to is providing needy families the food they need to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner. I think it would be great if we could donate the fresh fruits and vegetables they would need for their meal straight from our garden.
