About the Program:

The garden was created to supply local, organic food to the cafeteria to improve student nutrition; to give students opportunities for experiential learning and application of ideas learned in the classroom; and to connect students with their families, role models, and community. This grant will be used on expansion efforts to encourage teachers to use the garden for hands-on lessons with their students; on infrastructure and materials for community events held in the garden to encourage healthy eating and community engagement; and on strengthening our after school cooking and gardening program so our students can learn how to plan, build, and maintain their own gardens, as well as how to cook what they grow. We want funding to create a learning landscape complete with educational signage detailing various ecosystems and processes and an outdoor cooking station to use cooking as a means to teach math, science, and nutrition during class, after school clubs, and community events.
