About the Program:

The goal of our garden at Holly Lane is to facilitate community relationships, student learning of nature, food, and nutrition.
The Holly Lane Garden started when a staff member applied for a grant from Annie’s Homegrown Food Company in May of 2013 to start our garden. We were awarded the grant in the amount of $500. That money was used to buy lumber in order to build raised garden beds, fencing materials various seeds and seedlings to plant in our garden.
As part of our mission to promote community activism, we were able to donate vegetables to the Westlake Assistance Program throughout the summer. Westlake Assistance is part of our city’s social outreach program. The assistance is available to older adults and low income residents who meet program qualifications.
Receiving this grant would ensure the longevity and growth of our garden in our community. We can continue to instill good stewardship practices of nature and the earth in our students. Additionally, how agriculture, even on a small scale, can promote community, health, and wellbeing.
