Hexter Elementary School Garden & Outdoor Classroom

The Hexter Garden provides our students with hands-on experiences that support their academic success, their love of learning, and their personal wellness.

What we do:

• Support academic success by partnering with teachers to provide an outdoor classroom for academic lessons emphasizing science and math, and incorporating literature, writing, social studies, music, and art.
• Provide a rich natural environment that encourages students’ natural curiosity and engages them in the learning process.
• Enhance student wellness with physical activity during the school day, stress reduction through their connection with nature, a sense of environmental stewardship, and the experience growing and eating their own nutritious food.
• Provide a place and a focus for community involvement, thus strengthening area support for our school
