About the Program:

Harlem Renaissance High School (HRHS) and the Hunter College Liberty Partnership Program (HCLPP) created the garden and nutrition program with the goals of exposing an at-risk community to healthy eating, promoting environmental leadership, encouraging students to enter STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) disciplines and increasing access to green jobs.

Currently, a green house is being erected. This grant will allow us to maximize the impact our green house and hydroponics kit will have in the school community through the purchasing of much-needed supplemental supplies. Having the proper measuring equipment will allow us to fully integrate science and math classes with the gardening program and will inspire our students to explore STEM fields. An aquaponics system will drive home the ecological message of interconnectedness through nutrient cycles. Our impact will be exponentially greater with the proper tools to explore the full potential of our greenhouse.
