Greiner School Garden (Proposed)
Our proposed program for SY 2016-2017 is a school garden. Our goal is to establish a living laboratory/learning environment for our middle school students where they can learn in the various content areas such as Science, Health and Home Economics. We also envision it to become part of our overall sustainability program for the school. We've already begun our energy audit and we plan in the next few years to cover recycling and water conservation as well.
Greiner middle school is an inner city school that includes an arts academy. Its student population is mostly Hispanic (about 90%) and eligible for the free/discounted school lunch program (about 80%).
We would like for the school garden to be a way to bring hands-on, relevant and inter-disciplinary learning to our students. We envision it to be a program where teachers, students, administrators, parents, cafeteria staff and custodians will become stakeholders.
