About the Program:

Since moving into our new school building three years ago, we have been in the process of developing our schoolyard to support the school's mission of improving student achievement and increasing stewardship for the environment through experiential environmental education. This work has resulted in the creation of two garden areas - our Organic Teaching Garden and our Pollinator Garden, both of which serve as outdoor classrooms and support our Investigations curriculum. We would like to use this grant to support our plans to develop the last remaining section of our schoolyard by building Fruit & Bird garden along a hillside where we experience a good deal of erosion. This project will stabilize the hillside by holding the soil in place, will provide additional garden space where we will plant to fruit trees and bushes (berries, apples, and pears) that will provide new kinds of foods for our Cooking Class and will attract a variety of birds the students can observe.
