About the Program:

The mission of the Science Garden at Grass Valley Charter School is to provide quality lessons in gardening and science to the students of Grass Valley Charter School. We hope to open the space up to the other schools in our district very soon. Every student from Pre-K through 6th grade attends 45 minute weekly garden classes. The classes often teach Science Standards through the lens of gardening.

Beyond the nuts and bolts of gardening methodes, students explore concepts in hydrology, geology, geography, ecology, botany, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and history. The Science Garden programming directly complement classroom curriculum and reinforce learning concepts and standards.

Our Science Garden has recently seen a great renaisance. Having been expanded to about a quarter acre we have installed a new pond, a 16 ft. x 24 ft. greenhouse, several shade structures, and dozens of new perennial plantings. In our new garden kitchen we prepare tastings for students.
