Glassel Park Elementary School
We built this garden in the spring of 2012. It includes an outdoor kitchen. The goal of this garden is to have it be the center of the existing program that teaches environmental stewardship, social awareness, wellness, nutrition and ecology. The greatest achievement in the program thus far has been getting students involved in their school garden and is an integral part of their academic curriculum. The students have been exposed to where their food comes and have been able to plant, tend to the garden and watch it grow and finally learn to make healthy food by utilizing the crops. Students have experienced a deeper connection to environment, their source of food and building invaluable skills including teamwork, problem solving and life skills such as growing food and preparing healthy foods. This grant will make it possible to add a small tool shed and 2 compost bins.
This program is supported by ENRICH LA.
