Galway High School / Central School District
The Rural Community Sustainable Farming Project (RCSFP) mission is to develop a self sustainable garden which utilizes an all natural means of organic farming. This requires heating (on site/ off grid), rain water collection, biodiesel production from waste vegetable oil and compost production. No man made pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizer will be used to grow food for the Galway School District and the surrounding community. This school and community project relies on students and volunteers for project participation and grant money to purchase tools and construction material to further develop the project's infrastructure. The goal is to additionally provide food for charitable donations and to sell at local markets and roadside stands. This project focuses on all school grade levels, teaching students about the financial side of the crop market, marketing, nutritional values, creating healthy recipes, calculating seed purchases, and recording temperatures in the greenhouses.
This program is supported by Galway Public Library.
