Franklin D. Roosevelt K-8 School
We are a full inclusion school where typical students and students with disabilities learn side by side . This project is needed because the primary focus of curriculum in the past has been literacy and math. This project would provide children with real-life applications of science and nature. With many of our students having special needs, the real world application is critical to their understanding. Our long term goal is for students to progress through the grades with a solid foundation of scientific inquiry and processes. Currently, our data shows that we need to build science competencies into our curriculum. Through the creation of the garden we will strengthen our science program from the ground up which will ultimately lead to improvement in our student's grasp of science and our statistical scores. The outdoor garden will be used to support and enhance science curriculum units being taught at each grade level accessible to all students with or without disabilities.
