About the Program:

The goal of the garden is to involve children in the study of the butterfly life cycle, the creation of a butterfly garden, and a conceptual understanding the life cycle of butterflies.
The life cycle of one of the standards in the elementary science curriculum. It is important that children understand the complete metamorphosis, which involves four different life stages; (egg, larva, pupa, and adult). A butterfly garden named after a dear, deceased teacher would provide children with the opportunity to see all the butterfly stages and the plants, which host the butterflies, larva, and pupa. Since the children will study and build the garden, they will have firsthand information when giving tours for our grand opening. The tours will involve identifying the host plants, the soil type, and what is involved in creating and maintaining a butterfly garden. Children will also learn how to propagate the butterfly plants for sale or give away.
