About the Program:

Our mission for the vegetable garden is to create an integrated learning environment inclusive of science , math, reading, writing, social studies, healthful living, community, culture and food sovereignty/access. We have installed one 3x6, three 4x4 and three 3x8 raised beds.  Central to our mission was the formation of a Nature & Garden Club, comprised of students who meet 6-8 weeks in fall/spring to plan/manage anything connected to the garden's mission. Our fall assignment, in addition to planting/harvesting/bug watching, was to design and execute a four week "Name the Lacy Vegetable Garden" Contest. Receiving over 60 submissions, The Dandy Lion Garden, with a tag line of "Lettuce Grow Together" was born.(Our mascot is a lion).

Our registration for our Spring Club is March 28, with our first meeting on April 10.

It will be exciting to see how The Dandy Lion Garden will transform into a hub of learning/activity/community for students/ teachers/volunteers. It will also be a priviledge to donate more food to Plant a Row for the Hungry.
