About the Program:

FoodPrints programs are now in 5 public schools in Washington, DC. The FoodPrints garden at Tyler Elementary is one of our newest, started in the spring of 2014 with a school garden grant from OSSE (DC's dept of education), generous support from FreshFarm Markets, and lots of help from the school community (students, staff, and parents).

FoodPrints is FreshFarm Markets' local foods school program that builds an edible school garden and integrates the garden into the school curriculum. Children who participate learn about where their food comes from and how important it is to eat fresh, nutritious, seasonal foods. The schools' life science and social studies curriculum is brought to life through engaging project-based learning experiences that meet DCPS and Common Core Standards of Learning, and we are in the process of integrating health and Next Generation Science Standards into our curriculum. FoodPrints also teaches important life skills through project-based learning that includes hands-on experiences in the garden and the Food Lab teaching kitchen (or in a modified kitchen classroom setting, for our sites still under development).
