About the Program:

On March 7th, 2016, we introduce and implement our Seed2Plate initiative at Red Bay Primary with 30 students as a pilot program. We will run the program for 12 weeks (until the end of the year) while fundraising for the program to be in other public schools for the fall. In our weekly class we will tend to the garden and learn about elements like composting, weeding, greenhouses, critters, installing vertical growing units, soil viability and how to grow foods that can thrive in our tropical environment. We will also make a healthful recipe using local farm ingredients as we patiently wait for the fruits of our labor. Bringing nutrition, agriculture and health together is central to our program.

The mission of the Seed2Plate program is to educate children about food in a practical, exciting and engaging way. When children understand where food comes from and learn how to incorporate healthful foods into their everyday lives, they can form healthy eating habits that last a lifetime.

We believe that providing our future generations with the tools they need to grow food and prepare nutritious meals from scratch equips them with some of life’s most valuable skills – and it is FUN! We are excited learn from other programs worldwide, share best practices and innovative ideas so our Seed2Plate initiative can inspire budding chefs, responsible citizens and healthful human beings.
