Environmental Sciences Magnet at Mary Hooker

At the Environmental Sciences Magnet School at Mary Hooker we aim to enhance students learning and nutrition through gardening. As a preK through 8 school, we hope to see our students grow up in the garden and develop a sense of ownership of this environment. We will always ensure that the garden is a safe and pleasant space for students, families, staff and neighbors to interact in ways that they might not inside the school building. As a leader in the school gardening effort in Hartford, we wish to increase our capacity to support garden projects throughout the district by hosting more site visits and bringing more schools to our greenhouse to get a head start on their own gardens every year.

This grant will allow us to grow our garden education curriculum, improve and sustain the physical garden space and expand our school/community network.
