About the Program:

Elmwood’s school garden will offer a dynamic setting to integrate science, math, reading, environmental studies, art, nutrition and health, while nurturing community spirit and cultural appreciation by building connections among students, teachers, families and organizations.
Our mission is to provide each classroom with the opportunity to participate in the creation, maintenance and production of the garden. The goals of this project include: teaching students about gardening; supporting healthy eating initiatives; giving students pride in ownership and production; and allowing students to give back to the community by donating excess harvests.
A garden would greatly benefit our students and impact their lives beyond the classroom. The garden may be the first time students have been introduced to farming, fruits and vegetables and community involvement. The opportunity for children to harvest crops and have ownership would build self-confidence, teach children how to be self-sustainable and create a foundation for healthy food choices.
The grant would allow us to purchase our seed starter kits, lamps and additional plants to start our garden program.
