About the Program:

Our goal it to help students to form a connection with their food by understanding where it comes from and to promote a love for healthy snack options. We live in an area that is somewhat inundated with fast food, and there are also many kids on the free and reduced lunch program who may not have adequate access to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We hope to encourage a love for healthy food and to build a foundation for healthy food choices later in life. The grant will make it possible for the primary school and the elementary school to work together to plant peas, carrots, radishes, cherry tomatoes, and edible herbs as well as Popcorn and possibly strawberries. It will allow us to host two Harvest Celebrations that promote healthy eating and begin a school Farmer’s Market. It will also make it possible to fund a field trip to the local Farmer’s Market for students to better learn about healthy fruits and vegetables that are fresh, locally grown, and in season.
