Edith Landels Elementary School
The goal of our garden is to provide an outdoor learning place for all students, combining six new raised planter beds with a California native habitat garden and seating area for an entire class. The garden would be used for all Living Classroom lessons, for other lessons and activities organized directly by teachers, and extra-curricular activities through the new garden club to be launched in the fall of 2014 after the new garden is installed. The grant will cover the costs of the new planter boxes, irrigation work and materials, at least a portion of the seating area, and a permanent sign for the garden to inform the many passers-by of the school use of the garden and that they are not to pick the food crops or disturb the garden. The new garden will be used throughout the school year. Over the summer school break, an automatic irrigation system will allow summer crops to grow and be harvested in August and September.
