About the Program:

The goal for our school garden is to create a functioning vegetable garden which will allow the students the chance to have a variety of experiential learning opportunities. Some of these learning opportunities would include hands-on learning of nature, teamwork, as well as learning about nutrition. These learning opportunities are extremely important to our community of inner-city learners, most of which have never seen a garden up close. The ability to produce their own healthy food is enormously powerful. Having the understanding of gardening can help to promote sustainability and healthy eating choices for these families. Long-term goals for our garden include additional raised beds that would include a large strawberry bed, a large raised bed for growing popcorn, and an herb garden. This grant would provide our school with the necessary materials and learning resources needed to be successful in our gardening journey. Our students would greatly benefit from this grant.
