Doctors Charter School of Miami Shores

The goal of our garden is to involve our students in the creation and ongoing maintenance of an edible garden. Our garden is used as an educational resource for our classrooms and lessons and curriculum are tied to the growing of vegetables, trees and plants by both the middle school and high school programs. The students will also be introduced to healthier eating options as they will be picking the produce and taking it home to prepare for their families. The grant will afford the funds to allow the purchase of additional tools and a larger safe storage place for them to be kept. We are maintaining an organic garden so the need for weeding and mulching on a constant basis is very important. Our garden to this point has been funded by the generosity of parents and local businesses at varying times but this support is not always consistent and this grant will allow us that.
