About the Program:

Our school’s edible garden is called the Dicken PLANT Garden. PLANT stands for ‘Planting, Learning, and Appreciating Natures Treasures’. Our main goals are to:
• Educate students on living healthy & growing organic food
• Teach students to respect & care for the earth and each other
• Provide students with a hands-on way to learn lessons that complement curriculum and beyond.
• Be a model for families that may want to explore growing their own produce
Last spring we converted an under-utilized vegetable garden into a more defined garden space on the school grounds. We cleared the site, added pine raised beds, installed an outdoor classroom and wood chipped paths. The students truly enjoyed this experience!
The Dicken community is amazed about recent improvements and excited about the increase in garden programs. With the help of the Whole Kids Foundation grant we can add permanent fencing and expand our garden area to further advance our goals for the school garden.
