About the Program:

We have three main goals for our school garden. We aim to create a connection to healthy food, teach science lessons outside and cultivate stewardship ethic for our students.

We hope to use the grant funds to improve our school’s farm-to-table experience. Childhood obesity is a well-documented epidemic in our country, and we believe that we can address this problem in our school garden. We have had success so far, and would like to use grant funds to expand on our existing program. Last year, students got to cook and eat produce from the garden. They took recipes home to their families, where they were motivated to prepare and eat the dish again. During class, students harvested and enjoyed vegetables such as artichokes, steamed beets, broccoli, salad, and cauliflower.

We would use grant funds to improve the soil quality by adding high-quality compost, which parts of the garden severely need. We would also like to purchase edible perennials, a greenhouse, and kid-friendly tools.
