About the Program:

Damar’s organic garden project is called Growth for Kids Garden. It is an outdoor learning environment designed to engage students age 6-19 in the development of a school garden while promoting healthy nutrition and positive social skills. Our garden helps improve academic retention through an engaging connection between in-class learning and hands-on experiences during the summer, from science and math to nutrition and literacy. We study worms, weather, sunlight, and what our plants need to grow. We prepare the garden, plant seeds, weed, hoe and water, and harvest vegetables while learning about a variety of subjects that coincide with stages of the garden. It's fun to prepare snacks and learn to cook with our harvest. We've tried turnip green salads, tomato pizzas and eggplant nuggets. Our huge strawberry patch is The Best! We believe in community service and donate a portion of our produce to a local food pantry or senior center. Damar Services is a leading provider of care for children with developmental disabilities, offering a continuum of residential treatment and community-based services in 48 out of Indiana's 92 counties.
