About the Program:

Creative City Public Charter School is a new, progressive, parent-founded elementary school in Baltimore, Maryland. Creative City opened in 2013, and uses Baltimore City’s natural and built environments and communities as a foundation for learning. Our school builds on the inquisitive nature of children to drive the project-based, arts-integrated curriculum, developing self-directed critical thinkers. An Outdoor Classroom has been an important part of our school’s vision since before we opened. The Outdoor Classroom serves as our school and community garden as well as a natural play space. Students are able to plant and grow produce, learn about native Maryland plants and animals, and run around and engage with their natural environment. We have also begun embedding garden education and culinary arts into the school’s curriculum. Last year we received a grant to begin building the garden and natural play space. As we move forward, it has become necessary to secure more funds to keep our garden and culinary program sustainable and allow them to be utilized by our students, school families, and the surrounding community.
