About the Program:

The Coyote Valley Elementary School Garden is an outside life science learning lab where we grow organic food and promote our school's Wellness Policy. Children in our K-6 school learn about plants, soil, animals, and water conservation in a natural environment. Students learn how to plant, tend, and harvest crops and seeds. They have opportunities to eat the fruits of their garden endeavors in the school salad bar, the garden, and in their classrooms. Our goal is to increase our food production, the involvement of our students, and opportunities for nutrition education while being mindful of the California drought situation. Our garden sits in direct sunlight all day in our hot, dry part of Northern California. A reliable and efficient watering system is necessary for our success. The Whole Kids Foundation Grant will enable us to update and replace our aging irrigation system and build up moisture conserving growing beds.
