Cottonwood Plains Elementary School
We will have six raised gardening beds (one for each grade level) which would allow us to have gardens specific to each curriculum.
The goal of our gardens is to provide real-life, hands-on skills and traits that we strive to teach in the classroom - such as science, health and wellness, math, responsibility and teamwork. And with 40 percent of our students at poverty level, the garden would provide a resource and teaching tool that they currently do not have access to. It also will provide additional opportunity for parental involvement and community partnerships as we use the gardens for outreach activities such as Farmer's Markets, donating to food banks, and contributing food to our cafeteria.
The grand money would allow us to fund the necessary infrastructure for supporting our gardens, such as purchasing materials for a shed to store tools and getting the lumber to build the raised beds.
