Compadre Academy
We must meet our school's needs with an approach that is environmentally sustainable and strengthens local communities. Our garden has three aims, (1) to create an outdoor classroom where students can engage in exciting, high-quality, hands on learning in subjects including math, science, wellness, and business, (2) to foster a stronger sense of community through the creation of a green, communal space and (3) to prioritize the sustainable vision for our school where students are committed to bettering themselves, their community, and their environments. Evidence suggests that gardening enhances self-efficacy and well-being, constructs we hope to envelop our students throughout their high school experience. Moreover, teachers can craft multidisciplinary problem based lessons that extend beyond the classroom and cater to diverse learning styles. Garden projects will contribute to the character of our students, school, and community. Students will learn how the decisions they make about food are connected to every other aspect of their lives, as well as to the future health of our planet.
