Columbian School

Program Type:
Garden Classrooms
About the Program:

In the spring of 2012, with the help of many volunteers including students, teachers, parents and community members, we transformed an overgrown 6500 sq ft. plot at Columbian Elementary School into a garden that would become a space full of learning, creating and eating. The outcome of the garden in just one year has been extraordinary and so in 2013 with the help of the Whole Foods Hero grant we would like to build more raised beds due to poor soil so we can increase production, continue our North High School program where we hire students from there to help take care of the garden, increase the number of students who come to the free after school and summer garden program, continue the onsite farm stand all summer long and to bring food from the garden into the cafeteria during the school year.
