Colorado Springs Charter Academy
Our goal is to make possible a “Grow to Learn Garden” for our students - that is sustainable for years to come. The vision is to impact all 505 of our students, 55 staff members and 1000’s of parents and community members. We are a K-8 school, with a 30% free and reduced lunch rate. Our garden will built by March 2015 by our 6th-8th grade classes, supported and supervised by our PTO and Booster Parents and Science Teachers. These grades will also be learning about creating sustainable native garden materials, planting fruits/vegetables/herbs, picking and preparing foods for laboratory lessons and gathering the harvest for our nutrition services to feed our students healthy eating options. Our Upper Elementaryth grade classes will share garden responsibilities and make visits to the garden to touch, taste and learn about the food they're growing. In addition, we are currently evaluating available curriculum to support Nutrition Week that we will implement in all grades classes starting in fall 2015.
