About the Program:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro (BGCSL) is approaching the issue of increased obesity among San Leandro and San Lorenzo children through the lens of developing healthy choices that will lead to healthy habits. Our school families often do not have time to make healthy meals or know what constitutes a healthy meal. The Healthy Choices Program Goal is to increase student and parent awareness of and experience with healthy eating, nutrition, gardening and cooking and understanding the role of food in fighting obesity. A healthy diet is part of the National BGCSL's Formula for Impact. Our Healthy Choices School Garden Program makes fresh produce available to students and families, educates them about nutrition, and provides access to fresh produce to have a healthy community. Healthy Choices is comprised of a twice weekly gardening program for students who harvest crops and participate in cooking/nutrition classes weekly incorporating garden and Project EAT sample produce.
