About the Program:

Students in our therapeutic schools (grades K-12) have special educational needs and behavioral and learning challenges. For many, these challenges are compounded by physical ailments like obesity, Type 2 diabetes, lack of exercise, and difficulty accessing health care. Our school garden provides hands-on learning that complements daily educational activities and underscores our commitment to physical fitness and holistic health.
Goals for the garden include 1) integrating the growing process into the classroom curriculum and 2) work with our kitchen staff to use the produce grown to supplement school lunches provided to at-risk children.
A grant will make it possible to weave the lessons, activities, and benefits of the garden into the daily curriculum for children. It will also allow us to play an active role in our community's existing gardening initiative.
