Charles R. Hadley Elementary

Our main goal for our school garden is to provide children and their parents with a hands on experience that they will apply daily and for the rest of their lives. The majority have never touched soil before and have never been responsible for growing something of their own from seed to harvest. Occupied with the challenges of family life they don't often consider their food sources and choices and how they affect their family's health. Our school embraces The EdFund's cross-curricular approach to reach our goal: "The Plant A Thousand Gardens Collaborative Nutrition Initiative...uses edible gardens as outdoor learning laboratories to instill in children the desire to eat vegetables, the knowledge to reduce intake of unhealthy foods and the love of learning in all subjects."
