The Whole Kids Foundation garden grant will help fund ongoing garden activities. These activities currently include: 1) a harvest activity with two science lessons on adaptation and the plant life cycle; 2) school-wide tasting of the fall harvest; 3) a compost activity that incorporates science drawing lesson and abstract art project focused on decomposers; 4) a spring planting activity where the students grow lettuce, kale, and other winter greens in windowsills through the winter and transplant in the Spring; 5) a late spring winter harvest with a math activity demonstrating transplanting success; 6) a school-wide winter green tasting; and 7) a summer planting at the end of the school year that incorporates a math estimation lesson and a mural art project. The funds will also be used for additional curriculum development for associated lessons.
