Canyon Park Junior High
We used our grant to buy 24 yards of topsoil and garden tools for our school garden! We had 150 students shoveling and pushing wheelbarrows full of topsoil with the help of parents and master gardeners. Every group of four 7th grade students shares a garden plot in which they design, plant and care for vegetables and flowers. We have a team of 8-10 Master Gardeners who come in to share their expertise as well as work alongside the students in the garden. At the end of the year we will have a big garden celebration where the students harvest and eat a garden salad while we honor the Master Gardeners. Many students take their plants home to care for and harvest over the summer months. The garden project supplies real-life experience and examples which apply to science concepts learned in our classroom.
