About the Program:

The goal of our gardening project is to teach youth to utilize their resources, understand how to care for the environment, and create a sustainable garden that provides for the needs of those around them; all while learning about nutrition and healthy lifestyles and the science behind gardening. This grant will help our youth gain an in-depth understanding of the importance of conservation and sustaining plant life, through hands-on educational experiences. In addition, the grant will provide resources for youth to experiment with different gardening techniques, such as possibilities for weed control or hanging garden systems. The grant will also help provide resources to teach nutrition from garden to table, such as additional items to create healthy meals or transportation to the local food bank. Youth will be involved in every step of the process, from planting to snack time, and will be receiving a unique educational experience.

This program is supported by The Boys & Girls Club of Brookings.
