About the Program:

The goals of the C. B. Sabbath Community Garden include educating the students about how food is produced, where it comes from, and how we can create healthier alternatives for community. Lessons for these goals will be presented across the curriculum.

Additionally, creating and managing the garden will serve an effective form of project-based learning.

Last year some of the most valuable contributers to the garden were special education students and other struggling students. The concrete nature of the project helped them determine areas and volumes of soil needed as well as measuring and cutting reclaimed lumber when they might not have suceeded in the classroom with more abstract problems.

Finally, the garden is a source on healthy produce for the families of our students who can harvest the reults of their labor all summer. The students of the summer program continue the maintainance of the garden and to assure that it produces throughout the growing season.
