About the Program:

The mission of the Butternut Community Preschool is to promote a child’s natural love of learning. This mission is accomplished through an emergent curriculum guided by the interests of the children, but designed to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for their future academic success. Projects are designed to encourage the children to collaborate, discuss and ask questions.

A large part of our curriculum centers on the school garden. Students grow and harvest fruits and vegetables. Recipes for our meal plans focus on these fresh ingredients. The Butternut Community Preschool believes in promoting a child’s sense of responsibility and respect for others, for nature and for the environment. Students will participate in lessons such as gardening and environmental conservation that reinforce core academic subjects (science, social studies, language and math). These types of hands-on lessons produce high student achievement in an environment that promotes the healthy social, emotional and physical growth of young children.
