Brookside Elementary

Our goal is to provide our students with an understanding of the source of their food and an opportunity to explore the natural world, meanwhile linking their garden activities to California common core standards. We have an excellent curriculum which connects planting and harvesting activities to standards in Math, Science, English and History, all the while interesting kids in eating healthy home-grown foods.
Although we have had a vibrant garden program for more than a decade, we have had to relocate our garden due to construction over the summer. We are trying to get our new garden space up and running and a grant from Whole Foods will allow us to continue our vibrant garden program this year. Since we applied for a Whole Foods grant last year, we have made tremendous progress, building several raised beds and having substantially completed our outdoor classroom and garden shed, but we still have remaining work to do.
