About the Program:

Brooklyn Urban Garden Charter School (BUGS) is a middle school located in Brooklyn, NY dedicated to civic engagement and the interdisciplinary study of environmental sustainability. BUGS opened its doors to students in August of 2013 and will eventually serve grades 6 through 8. The school provides a rigorous and balanced curriculum in all core subjects—with a strong focus on math and science using experiential and hands on outdoor learning. BUGS is seeking a mini grant of $2,000 to support the further construction of our school garden, which is the centerpiece of the BUGS curriculum and mission. The grant will enable us to build a garden that is designed, created and maintained by BUGS students, is accessible and visible to the entire BUGS community: The primary areas are our North Lawn (we propose to enhance and expand that certified Wildlife Habitat and the addition of a Trellis Garden at our entrance.
