About the Program:

We believe this grant will allow our students many opportunities that they might not be able to find in the classroom. First, we know our students will benefit from the social skills and behaviors required to interact with other students on a team. A garden will provide our students with the chance to work together to solve problems and generate ideas for a common goal.
Secondly, creating something with their own hands while interacting directly with nature will provide our students with healthier environmental attitudes as well as better attitude towards fresh foods. Research shows that students that grow their own foods are more willing to try new foods. Next, we believe participating in a school garden will encourage our students to transfer their knowledge of researching, planting, and nurturing their plants to their own homes and in their adult lives. Lastly, we know this garden will provide our students with a new appreciation for the outside world. In a world where technology tends to reign supreme, our students will be getting a few moments to get their hands dirty, spend time in the fresh air, and be a part of something in which they can truly be proud!
