About the Program:

The goal for our school garden this year is to fund a Garden Coordinator to support all K-8 teachers in creating a pilot garden program for the year 2014/2015. We have already applied for a County grant, two local grants (Bolinas-Stinson Community Fund and Bolinas-Stinson School Foundation), and our School Board has offered to fund between $3,000-$5,000 annually to support a school garden program to enhance science and outdoor learning in all grades. This grant (through Whole Kids Foundation) would make it possible for us to fund a Garden Coordinator who can start planning and working with teachers early next year to support their curriculum and create a cohesive plan for our schoolyard transformation. Phase One - Fund a Garden Coordinator (necessary for teachers to feel this program is real, to give them one contact person to work with, and to ensure that the garden program won't fall apart over the summer). Phase Two - Teacher, Student and Community Input on Garden Design Ideas. One of our community partners (a permaculture designer and biodiversity researcher) has offered to design our school garden site to incorporate edibles, natives, food forests, grey water management, and outdoor classroom space into the overall plan. Phase Three - Community Build of Main Edible Space/Outdoor Classroom
