Blanche H. Daughtrey Elementary School
Our garden is structured to provide space for individual raised-bed gardens for:
-our classroom teachers and their students,
-students' and families who live in Pride Park that are not able to have gardens where they live, and,
-to engage our students in their community, raised beds specifically tended by science students to grow vegetables for elderly residents of low-income.
The garden area is fenced in, but will be easily accessible to all participants. Teachers and students will be working in their garden plots during classroom hours; the Boys & Girls Clubs of Manatee County after school program members will work in their plots three afternoons a week, and students and their families will have access in the evenings, weekends and holidays.
We wish to begin year one with twenty individual garden plots and add more plots annually.
