About the Program:

The goal of the garden is to provide students with the skills necessary to construct, maintain and harvest their own healthy source of organic vegetables. The grant will make this project possible by providing the necessary funds to implement and maintain the garden project. The students at Big Picture Middle/High School are from poor families and many do not have access to suitable areas to learn how to grow their own food. It is hoped that the students will gain skills that they can use at home to assist their families in developing their own gardens. Each student will be creating a blog which details the progress of the garden from beginning to end, which has the potential to inspire other students across the globe. The school community will gain a sense of pride as they see the garden begin to take shape and flourish under our students care. It is also hoped that the greater community outside the school will see the successful creation of the gardens and become inspired to create gardens of their own. When the garden becomes successful, we would like to share the harvest with the school community as well as the local community.
